By Charmaine Camilleri

POLICE are searching for a woman who threatened a taxi driver with a blood-filled syringe in an attempted armed robbery in Carlton on May 14.

The attack happened shortly after the passenger caught a taxi at the intersection of Boundary and Racecourse roads in North Melbourne at 1.45pm.

Detectives said when the taxi arrived at the intersection of Drummond and Palmerston streets, Carlton, the woman allegedly produced a blood-filled syringe and demanded money. The driver knocked the syringe from the offender's hand, before she picked it up and fled through a nearby housing estate.

The woman is described as Caucasian, about 170centimetres, with shoulder-length brown hair and a heavy build. She wore cream cotton tracksuit pants, a dark T-shirt, jacket and large, dark sunglasses.
