A 19-year-old man is due to appear today before Townsville Magistrates Court, in north Queensland, charged with robbing a taxi driver on Saturday night.

Police say the taxi driver picked up the man and a woman outside a pub on Hervey's Range Road.

An officer says the car reached Allambie Lane in Rasmussen about 7:05pm AEST and it is alleged the man placed the driver in a head lock and demanded money.

The man was arrested by police last night and has been charged with robbery with violence in company whilst armed.
