Police investigating the disappearance of a Sydney cab driver have found a body near where he went missing.

Sixty-seven-year-old Robert Woodger's taxi was found abandoned at Eastwood in Sydney's north-west on Wednesday.

Strike Force Russellton was set up to investigate his disappearance.

Late this afternoon the body of a man in his 60s was found in grassland on a vacant block.

It was a short distance from Mr Woodger's abandoned cab.

A crime scene has been set up and police are continuing their investigations.

They are yet to formally identify the body.
