Another pedestrian hit by car in CBD

A pedestrian has been taken to hospital with suspected head and internal injuries after being hit by a taxi at a busy city intersection this afternoon.

It is believed the man, aged in his 50s, was crossing Elizabeth Street about 3pm when he was clipped by the Black and White cab, tearing off the vehicle's mirror.

Witnesses said he fell face down onto the road and was knocked unconscious.

He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken by ambulance to Royal Brisbane Hospital.

Police have questioned the driver, a middle-aged man, who appeared shaken after the incident.

A female witness said the incident was the second involving a pedestrian at the major intersection in the past several days.

"It's pretty bad here, the lights change too quickly and there is traffic going everywhere," the woman said.

Further south along Elizabeth Street, bunches of flowers and photographs mark the spot where teenager Caitlin Donohue was killed while crossing the road exactly one week ago today.

The 15 year-old Fortitude Valley schoolgirl had been walking near the Queen Street Mall with friends Chloe Middleton and Jessica Wissa when they were hit by a car.

Rescue fireman Bill O'Pray, of the Queensland Fire and Rescue Service, said pedestrian crashes were common in the CBD.

"It happens perhaps once a fortnight or once a month on average," Station Officer O'Pray said.

"Sometimes we might get two or three in a week.

"That's just what happens in the city, unfortunately, it's just busy."
