Police talk to accused cabbie
POLICE yesterday interviewed a Geelong taxi driver accused of raping a Whittington woman in the back seat of his cab.
The woman, 26, boarded the taxi outside North Geelong's Sphinx Hotel about 3.40am on Sunday.
She has alleged the driver pulled into the Royal Geelong Yacht Club car park during the trip and attacked her before driving her home.
Her claim sparked a city-wide search for the taxi in question but the alleged attacker ended the search when he visited police yesterday.
Detective Senior Constable Jamie Cookson of Geelong CIU said the man had been extremely co-operative with police as part of investigations into the woman's claims.
"The taxi driver has come forward of his own free will and is assisting us with our inquiries," Det Sen-Constable Cookson said.
Police interviewed the man with the aid of an interpreter late yesterday before releasing him.
